Contractor of The Year Award
2003 - Kitchen under $30,000, Local Gold and Region I Chrysalis Outstanding Project Award
Before: This project was a kitchen remodel and our client was in desperate need of more storage. She also wanted to maintain an eat-in kitchen. They wanted all the modern comforts and updating while keeping an old-work look. Easy maintenance was another concern and the old kitchen was always cold.
After: We approached our projects with a set of questions and then walk our clients through the design process. The initial design was handled this way with major input from the client. Once the initial design is complete a budget can be established and product selection can begin. Storage is always important and with the peninsula, cabinets, pantry and ceiling height cabinets all added the extra storage we needed. The peninsula also will be used for the eating area with the use of stools. Installing a high out put toe kick heater under the sink cabinet solved the heat problem. This hidden heat source, also called a hide a vector, delivers a warm blanket of heated air across the floor for warmth not felt before in this kitchen.
After: The combination of the distressed cabinets, stone counter tops, and ceramic tile floors give this project a beautiful old world finish. Antique silver handles added a finishing accent to the cabinets. The Delta faucet in antique silver and older style also aided in dating our kitchen and further enhanced the new appliances. The dishwasher, stove and microwave are from the Frigidare Professional series in stainless and a Kitchenaid Superba built in refrigerator. The experts at Cancos Tile helped our client with the floor tile selection, which we laid on an angle to make the room appear larger. For lighting we chose down lights over the main counter top and with under the cabinet task lighting our work areas have plenty of light. Drop down fixtures over the peninsula accent the eating area and can be dimmed as needed for the right mood. The archways added to the doorways were installed to date the house back to when it was built and to add character.
Before: The before photo to the right was taken from the dining room looking into the kitchen. The dining room had been added before our client purchased the home. The exterior room had been added before our client purchased the home. The exterior of the home is covered with river rock veneer.
After: This posed a little problem with the finishing of the sheetrock but as you can see in the after photograph we were able to pull it off. The archways and new doors on the closet and basement stairs cleaned up the hallway and carrying the ceramic tile from the dining room to the kitchen helps give an even flow.
